Melanie Onn, MP for Great Grimsby and Cleethorpes, recently visited the Siemens Mobility Rail Village in Goole to hear from constituents who work at the site. She was given a tour of the state-of-the-art facility by employees to hear about their work assembling new trains, including for Transport for London.<\/p>\n

The Goole Rail Village has brought significant investment to the surrounding area. The Goole site represents an investment of up to \u00a3240 million, comprising of a train manufacturing facility, components facility, logistics centre, bogie assembly and service centre.<\/p>\n

This investment will bring up to 1,000 new jobs to East Riding of Yorkshire, as well as around 1,700 supply chain opportunities, promoting localisation and helping to serve other global markets by 2030.<\/p>\n

Siemens Mobility employees showed Melanie the production line for the new Piccadilly line trains, which will begin operating in the second half of 2026. They also spoke about the opportunity to work on a new fleet of rolling stock that utilises battery bi-mode technology. This is a much quicker and cheaper way to replace diesels on routes that can\u2019t be electrified any time soon.<\/p>\n

All future Siemens Mobility UK rolling stock orders will be built at Goole, including the new Desiro Verve battery bi-mode trains which the company has calculated could save Britain\u2019s railways \u00a33.5 billion and 12 million tonnes of CO2 over 35 years.<\/p>\n

Siemens Mobility also operates a light maintenance depot in Cleethorpes, supporting a further eight jobs in the region. The depot was built in 2006, with the land split into two parts that includes depot facilities for trains to be stabled overnight for cleaning, refuelling and preparing for service. This facility extends Siemens Mobility\u2019s regional footprint and underscores the commitment to the UK economy.<\/p>\n

Melanie Onn, Member of Parliament for Great Grimsby and Cleethorpes, said following the visit:<\/p>\n

\u201cI had the privilege of visiting the Siemens Mobility factory in Goole recently. I was impressed by the significant investment made here and the profound economic benefits it brings to the North of England, particularly for my constituents in Great Grimsby and Cleethorpes.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was a real highlight to meet and speak with many of the dedicated employees who build these cutting-edge trains. Their passion and expertise truly underscore the importance of this site as a hub for advanced manufacturing and engineering talent in our region. I’m very grateful to them for kindly showing me around the factory.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also discussed the future, especially the potential for the factory to produce innovative battery bi-mode trains. I’m really excited by the opportunity for these trains that herald the future of train manufacturing in the UK to be produced here in the Humber region.<\/p>\n
