The wood purchasing company sources more than 6.5 million cubic metres of wood every year, and one-third of it travels on rail.<\/strong><br \/>\n<span id=\"more-65250\"><\/span>RCG serves Papierholz\u2019s shareholder mills\u2014including Heinzel P\u00f6ls, Mondi Frantschach, Sappi Gratkorn and Norske Skog Bruck. Wagons are loaded with wood chips and logs, the majority sourced from Austria and delivered directly. At P\u00f6ls alone, 1.4\u202fmillion\u202ftonnes of inbound and outbound material is loaded on trains annually\u2014around 40\u202f000 freight wagons\u2014via the plant\u2019s private siding, a figure that continues to grow.<\/p>\n<h2>Papierholz to integrate RCG\u2019s MIKE platform<\/h2>\n<p>Papierholz Austria is moving to fully integrate its systems with RCG\u2019s digital platform, MIKE. This shift will enable seamless ordering of empty wagons, transportation assignments, and real\u2011time shipment tracking\u2014eliminating manual processes like Excel sheets, emails, phone calls, and multiple system logins.<\/p>\n<p>MIKE offers an end\u2011to\u2011end digital interface: transparent, automated, and agile enough to respond to last\u2011minute changes in volume or schedule. This provides a modern, interconnected rail\u2011based timber supply chain\u2014smart, sustainable, and ready for future challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Drawing on its long\u2011standing cooperation, Papierholz Austria and RCG are honing their rail capabilities\u2014from forest sourcing through to mill delivery. The initiative is not only reducing emissions and raising operational efficiency, but also preparing the supply chain to withstand future climate unpredictability.
