{"id":265780,"date":"2025-08-12T22:51:54","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T12:51:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/railuk.com\/?p=181276"},"modified":"2025-08-12T22:51:54","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T12:51:54","slug":"railway-station-closures-set-for-huddersfield-and-deighton","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=265780","title":{"rendered":"Railway station closures set for Huddersfield and Deighton"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/railuk.com\/railway-stations\/railway-station-closures-set-for-huddersfield-and-deighton\/\" title=\"Railway station closures set for Huddersfield and Deighton\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"485\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.railuk.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/12135005\/hudds-485x360.jpg\" class=\"webfeedsFeaturedVisual wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" style=\"display: block; margin-bottom: 5px; clear:both;max-width: 100%;\" link_thumbnail=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.railuk.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/12135005\/hudds-485x360.jpg 485w, https:\/\/cdn.railuk.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/12135005\/hudds-80x60.jpg 80w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 485px) 100vw, 485px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Customers are being urged to plan ahead as transformational work to modernise the railway across Huddersfield and Deighton gets underway, bringing significant improvements to journeys across the North.<\/p>\n<p>From Saturday 30 August, Huddersfield station will temporarily close for 30 days, whilst Deighton station will close until 2027, as part of the multi-billion-pound Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) &#8211; a once-in-a-generation programme to deliver faster, more frequent and more reliable trains between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Huddersfield station: Saturday 30 August \u2013 Sunday 28 September<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During the 30 days, TRU engineers will remodel tracks and platforms, strengthen Huddersfield viaduct and replace the John William Street bridge. Signalling upgrades and track renewals will also be carried out.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Services from Huddersfield towards Manchester, Leeds, York, Bradford and Sheffield will be affected during this time<\/li>\n<li>Where possible, diversionary routes will be utilised to keep customers on trains<\/li>\n<li>Customers are urged to check before travelling via\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalrail.co.uk\/\">nationalrail.co.uk<\/a>\u00a0or their train operator\u2019s website<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Huddersfield station will reopen on Monday 29 September in a temporary state, with three platforms in use instead of six. From this point until early 2027, when the station work is set to be complete, there will be changes to some services. Customers are being asked to plan ahead.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deighton station: Saturday 30 August \u2013 2027<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Deighton station will also close on Saturday 30 August, reopening in 2027 as a modern, step-free, accessible station.<\/p>\n<p>The upgraded station will feature:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Longer platforms to accommodate longer trains with more seats<\/li>\n<li>A new footbridge with lifts for step-free access<\/li>\n<li>A redesigned station forecourt with drop-off facilities<\/li>\n<li>Improved customer facilities<\/li>\n<li>Doubling of tracks through the area from two to four, allowing direct trains to overtake stopping services and reduce journey times<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>From Saturday 30 August to Sunday 28 September, an hourly rail replacement bus will operate between Huddersfield &#8211; Deighton &#8211; Mirfield &#8211; Dewsbury &#8211; Wakefield Kirkgate.<\/p>\n<p>From Monday 29 September until Deighton station reopens, an hourly rail replacement bus will operate between Huddersfield &#8211; Deighton &#8211; Brighouse.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Road closures and local travel information<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>To support these upgrades, a number of road closures will be in place around both stations:<\/p>\n<p>Huddersfield:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Partial closures of John William Street, Fitzwilliam Street, and A641 Bradford Road\/Northgate<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Deighton:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Whitacre Street will close to pedestrians from 20 August, removing southern access to the station until its full closure on 30 August<\/li>\n<li>A62 Leeds Road will be closed to vehicles on the weekends of:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>19\u201322 September<\/li>\n<li>3\u20136 October<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Advance warning signs will be in place, and the latest travel and diversion updates are available via&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/one.network\/\">https:\/\/one.network.<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Building a better railway for the North<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Gareth Hope, TRU sponsor, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThis period marks one of the most significant phases of work on the Transpennine Route Upgrade to date, delivering vital improvements that will bring faster, more reliable journeys to customers for generations.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWhilst we know our work will cause disruption, we\u2019d like to thank customers and local residents for their patience as we deliver generational change to their stations and their rail journeys.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Chris Nutton, Major Projects &amp; TRU Director at TransPennine Express, said:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;The improvement works taking place at Huddersfield for 30-days in August and September are key to the overall modernisation of the railway across the Pennines. The work done as part of the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU) will not only deliver benefits locally to Huddersfield, with a modern station that has longer platforms and upgraded facilities, but will also help deliver a faster, greener and more reliable services for our customers who travel between Manchester, Huddersfield, Leeds and York.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cWhile the work in the Huddersfield area is happening, TransPennine Express will be diverting three trains per hour between Manchester Victoria and Leeds via Brighouse, to keep customers moving over the Pennines. We are able to do this thanks to a \u00a3100 million investment by TRU into diversionary routes.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cBrighouse will serve as the main interchange point for customers travelling to and from Huddersfield, with replacement buses running up to every 15 minutes between the two towns. For the other stations we cannot serve during this engineering possession, we will be running rail replacement transport to keep our customers on the move.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>&nbsp;\u201cWe\u2019d like to thank customers for their patience while this vital work takes place.
