Victorians would be free to forcefully fight back against home intruders without consequence under a bold proposal to bolster the state\u2019s self-defence laws. Here\u2019s what it means for you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Libertarian MP David Limbrick is launching a bold bid to review, and potentially overhaul, the state\u2019s self-defence laws to give more power to residents to protect their homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It comes on the back of a surge in violent home invasions<\/a>, with thousands of cases last year<\/a> seeing Victoria hit a new record for the crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It would be the first review of the laws in over a decade and would specifically focus on how they were applied to people protecting their own homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPeople tell me they are worried about their safety and confused about what they are allowed to do, so I think it\u2019s high time we strengthened and clarified the laws about self-defence,\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Limbrick said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They shouldn\u2019t have to! We just need criminals jailed. We need judges to consider the victims rights more than the offenders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We need police to catch real criminals not flag wavers. We need more police patrolling the streets. We shouldn\u2019t have to defend our houses!!<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

If you break into someone\u2019s house at night or otherwise the intent should be threaten as a threat or murder\/r*pe and theft.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You should be able to defend yourself inside your property and especially your house. People don\u2019t break into your house because they\u2019re law abiding people<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
