Poland is investing the equivalent of 117 million euros to modernise the Nadodrzanka railway that leads to the Szczecin and \u015awinouj\u015bcie ports. The project should allow more trains, higher speeds and ultimately boost capacity on the 300-kilometre rail line.<\/strong>
\n<\/span>“Once the work is completed, the speed restrictions currently in place due to the technical condition of the tracks will be lifted\u201d, said Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Piotr Malepszak. \u201cThe investment will improve freight train speeds, allowing them to travel at speeds of up to 100 kilometres per hour.\u201d Passenger trains can also count on a boost, with speeds of up to 160 kilometres per hour.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe improved parameters will not only improve journey efficiency but will also increase the route’s capacity, allowing more trains, including freight trains, to travel to and from the seaports in Szczecin and \u015awinouj\u015bcie\u201d, the government official added. The Nadodrzanka railway runs from Silesia, in southwestern Poland, all the way up to the northwestern ports.<\/p>\n

The Polish government sees its seaports as vital logistics hubs and \u201ca gateway to the world for Polish entrepreneurship.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe effective development of Polish ports, including those in Szczecin and \u015awinouj\u015bcie, also depends on access infrastructure. That’s why the development of railway lines, which streamline the transport of goods, is so important\u201d, emphasised Deputy Minister for Infrastructure Arkadiusz Marchewka.<\/p>\n

Second investment in a short time<\/h2>\n

It is not the first investment that Poland has made in rail access to the two Baltic Sea ports. In 2024, infrastructure manager PKP PLK completed a project worth 350 million euros. It included nearly 100 kilometres of track modernisation, new overhead lines, switch replacement and bridge and viaduct reconstructions.<\/p>\n

The Szczecin – \u015awinouj\u015bcie port is also getting a new container transshipment hub:<\/strong> It signed an agreement for its construction in April 2025.<\/p>\n
