An explosive railway detonator that vanished from a railway north of Albany has been found metres from where it was reported missing after it was \u201cmisplaced\u201d by workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The public was urged to remain vigilant after police were tasked to investigate a missing railway detonator in Tenterden \u2014 similar to the device pictured below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cranbrook Police Officer in Charge Sgt. Nat Wynen confirmed the small explosive was found in the hours after it was reported missing on Thursday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sgt Wynen said the device was located about 5m from where it was reported missing during a foot search by police.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said it is believed the device was misplaced by workers on the railway line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The detonator is being conveyed back to the owners of the detonator, Arc Infrastructure, who had initially reported the detonator missing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company website states its workers operate and manage 5,500km of freight rail network across the WA\u2019s South West region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local police said the device \u2014 which is believed to be about 45mm wide \u2014 can cause harm if handled incorrectly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf located, do not handle! This item can cause harm,\u201d police said via social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The devices are usually attached to railways to emit loud warning sounds to train drivers in various scenarios. They explode under pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
