DB Cargo is looking to fix the problem by implementing solar-powered tracking devices enabling \u201creal-time transmission of location data for all freight wagons without needing an external power supply\u201d.<\/strong><br \/>\n<span id=\"more-64463\"><\/span>The device in question is the IoTgo Track-Solar developed by German-based security tech company Giesecke+Devrient (G+D). \u201cSensor and telematics data provide accurate position and movement data in real time\u201d, the company said in a press release. The G+D device is equipped with a solar cell and a 27 Ah battery. It allows freight train \u201ctracking for several months at low transmission intervals even without sunlight\u201d, according to the company.<\/p>\n<p>One of the main issues for tracking devices on freight trains is that they often have to endure harsh weather conditions and are frequently subjected to shocks. Thus, the IoTgo Track-Solar comes with an IP69K-rated housing for protection against water and dust, a flame retardant material and a shock sensor. \u201cTrack-Solar can be installed wirelessly on any surface in just a few minutes, making it ideal for continuous tracking and monitoring of a vehicle fleet\u201d, G+D added.<\/p>\n<figure style=\"max-width: 100%; margin: 20px auto; border-radius: 6px; overflow: hidden; box-shadow: 0 2px 8px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.1);\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"fluid alignnone\" style=\"width: 100%; height: auto; display: block;\" src=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GDs-IoTgo-Track-SOLAR.-Image-%C2%A9-GD.jpg\" alt=\"G+D's IoTgo Track SOLAR.
