{"id":251761,"date":"2025-07-15T19:09:07","date_gmt":"2025-07-15T09:09:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/railuk.com\/?p=179866"},"modified":"2025-07-15T19:09:07","modified_gmt":"2025-07-15T09:09:07","slug":"passengers-urged-to-plan-for-seven-day-cross-city-line-closure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=251761","title":{"rendered":"Passengers urged to plan for seven-day Cross City line closure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/railuk.com\/travel\/passengers-urged-to-plan-for-seven-day-cross-city-line-closure\/\" title=\"Passengers urged to plan for seven-day Cross City line closure\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"485\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.railuk.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/15100811\/West-Midlands-Railways-Class-730-Network-Rail-485x360.jpg\" class=\"webfeedsFeaturedVisual wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" style=\"display: block; margin-bottom: 5px; clear:both;max-width: 100%;\" link_thumbnail=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.railuk.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/15100811\/West-Midlands-Railways-Class-730-Network-Rail-485x360.jpg 485w, https:\/\/cdn.railuk.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/15100811\/West-Midlands-Railways-Class-730-Network-Rail-80x60.jpg 80w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 485px) 100vw, 485px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Passengers using the Cross City North line between Birmingham and Lichfield are being reminded no trains will run for seven days later this month.<\/p>\n<p>There will be no services between Birmingham New Street and Lichfield Trent Valley from Monday 28 July until Sunday 3 August inclusive, with the line reopening as normal on Monday 4 August.<\/p>\n<p>To help keep passengers moving during the seven-day closure:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A rail replacement bus service will run between Birmingham New Street and Lichfield Trent Valley, and between Birmingham New Street and Tame Bridge Parkway.<\/li>\n<li>Train services will continue to run as normal between Birmingham New Street and Redditch\/Bromsgrove on the southern section of the Cross City line.<\/li>\n<li>Services to Rugeley Trent Valley will be diverted via Aston, with slightly extended journey times.<\/li>\n<li>The original closure was needed to install an HS2 viaduct, with further Network Rail work \u2013 including earthwork repairs, cutting back vegetation, track maintenance and improvements &#8211; planned to make the most of the line being closed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>While the viaduct will now be installed at a later date, the other work will continue, as well as Birmingham City Council\u2019s ongoing strengthening and refurbishment work on the A38(M) Tame Valley Viaduct which runs directly above the railway.<\/p>\n<p>Denise Wetton, Network Rail\u2019s Central route director, said: \u201cEverything was done to plan this work to cause the least disruption to the fewest number of people, while completing the most amount of maintenance work as possible. There is never a good time for closures like this and I am sorry for the inconvenience, but school holidays and summer breaks means passenger numbers will be lower than normal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPassengers should check with West Midlands Railway and National Rail Enquiries for travel information, and I want to thank passengers in advance for their patience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jonny Wiseman, customer experience director for West Midlands Railway, commented: &#8220;I\u2019d like to thank our customers for their patience while the northern section of the Cross-City Line is closed.
