By way of an update on the Sunday evening derailment in the inner Melbourne suburb of Clifton Hill<\/a>, Cranes appeared on site last evening when Railpage had another live facebook update on the incident. Having just returned from the site a crane is indeed on site but the carriages have not moved with many workers wandering around the site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is evident the overhead around the derailed carriages has been removed presumably to be replaced after the crane has done its work. By the setup it appears the crane is rigged to lift the carriage off the rails and probably place it onto a flat bed for removal. Alternatively they may install another bogie under the carriage. If this was the case then why the need to remove so much overhead?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What has changed from yesterday is the first 4 carriages of the 6 car set have been moved to just south of Clifton Hill Station. On the UP end is SSR’s P16 idling away with the first carriage from the second set of 3 cars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier yesterday P17 arrived to remove the first 3 cars from the 6 car set and took them back into Melbourne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
