CSX Transportation is detouring traffic north and south of the Port of Baltimore following the March 26 collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The busy East Coast port was shuttered when the container ship <\/span>MV Dali <\/span>lost power and slammed into the interstate bridge. The main span collapsed moments after, killing six people. While the U.S. Coast Guard has been working on opening an alternative channel, that will mostly be for the cleanup effort \u2014 at least initially.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In order to keep traffic moving, shipping companies have begun to use alternative ports, including the Port of New York and New Jersey. As a result, CSX is now moving containers from New York south to their original destination in Baltimore and vice-versa. The railroad has also begun to divert coal trains original destined to the Port of Baltimore south to Newport News, Va.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
