British Steel has won a multi-million-pound contract to supply rail for a landmark new route in North Africa.<\/p>\n
In total, 9,500 tonnes of track, produced in Scunthorpe, will be delivered for Egypt\u2019s\u00a0Green Line railway \u2013 the country\u2019s\u00a0first fully electrified mainline and freight network\u00a0which stretches from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean.<\/p>\n
The network is 660km long and will carry trains \u2013 for both passengers and goods \u2013 up to a maximum speed of 250kmph (155mph) with\u00a0British Steel<\/a>\u00a0among a number of key suppliers providing rail to the project. Rail supplied is 60E1 in grade R260, each at 18 metres in length.<\/p>\n British Steel Commercial Manager Export \u2013 Rail, J\u00e9r\u00f4me Bonef, said: \u201cWe are delighted British Steel has been awarded this contract and to be involved in such a transformational project for Egypt, which will bring significant improvements to the transport network.<\/p>\n \u201cThe British Steel rail business prides itself on providing value solutions to our customers, being easy to trade with whilst providing on-time deliveries with world-leading quality.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n The line promises to revolutionise Egypt\u2019s transport system, with the construction of a high-speed network reducing primary energy usage and overall air pollution.<\/p>\n
