{"id":244838,"date":"2025-07-01T21:58:24","date_gmt":"2025-07-01T11:58:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/railuk.com\/?p=179349"},"modified":"2025-07-01T21:58:24","modified_gmt":"2025-07-01T11:58:24","slug":"journeys-to-be-affected-by-flood-works-in-south-gloucestershire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=244838","title":{"rendered":"Journeys to be affected by flood works in South Gloucestershire"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/railuk.com\/travel\/journeys-to-be-affected-by-flood-works-in-south-gloucestershire\/\" title=\"Journeys to be affected by flood works in South Gloucestershire\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"485\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.railuk.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/01125658\/Chipping-Sodbury-flooding-GWR-485x360.jpg\" class=\"webfeedsFeaturedVisual wp-post-image\" alt=\"\" style=\"display: block; margin-bottom: 5px; clear:both;max-width: 100%;\" link_thumbnail=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" srcset=\"https:\/\/cdn.railuk.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/01125658\/Chipping-Sodbury-flooding-GWR-485x360.jpg 485w, https:\/\/cdn.railuk.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/01125658\/Chipping-Sodbury-flooding-GWR-80x60.jpg 80w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 485px) 100vw, 485px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Great Western Railway services will be affected by rail improvement work in the Chipping Sodbury area affecting trains between Swindon and Bristol Parkway.<\/p>\n<p>Network Rail will carry out tunnel drainage alongside work to lift the track level which will affect train services from Monday 7 to Sunday 13 July, and on Sunday 20 July.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, track renewal work planned in the Patchway area will also affect train services between Bristol and South Wales until around midday on Sunday 20 July.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday 7 to Sunday 13 July<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Trains will run hourly between London and South Wales using an alternative route via Bath \u2013 extending journey times by around 30 minutes<\/li>\n<li>Some additional train services are planned to operate between London Paddington and Swindon at peak periods Monday to Friday.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Sunday 20 July<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Trains will run hourly between London and South Wales using an alternative route via Gloucester until 1545 \u2013 extending journey times by around an hour<\/li>\n<li>These services won\u2019t stop at Bristol Parkway due to separate engineering work taking place in the Patchway area<\/li>\n<li>After 1500 these trains will run via Bath instead of Gloucester \u2013 extending journey times by around 30 minutes<\/li>\n<li>Customers travelling between Bristol and South Wales can change at Gloucester or Cheltenham Spa, where other train services will still be running to\/from South Wales<\/li>\n<li>Limited replacement buses are planned between Bristol Parkway and Newport<\/li>\n<li>Valid rail tickets can be used to travel on the m4 Metrobus services between Bristol Parkway and Patchway<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Marcus Deegan, station manager for Bristol Parkway, said: &#8220;This work forms part of an ongoing programme of investment, helping to ensure we can continue to provide consistent and reliable services.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To maintain rail connections to and from South Wales, some of our trains will use a different route from normal \u2013 making journeys longer. Unfortunately, this also means the frequency of services between London and South Wales also has to be cut from half-hourly to hourly.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;However, we will provide some additional train services between London Paddington and Swindon Monday to Friday at peak periods. It\u2019s important customers are aware the arrangements in place will extend their journey times, so please plan ahead.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Network Rail project manager George Barratt commented: &#8220;This our latest piece of work to reduce the impact of flooding on the railway and surrounding area.
