HUNGARIAN private operator Gy\u0151r-Sopron-Ebenfurth railway (GySEV) has signed a contract with Stadler for the supply of nine five-car inter-city Flirt EMUs with an option for four additional trains.<\/p>\n
The new 160km\/h trains will be deployed on Sopron – Budapest and Szombathely – Budapest services from 2027. GySEV has three months from the date the contract enters into force to decide how many additional trains it will purchase. Stadler will hand over the first EMU 36 months after the contract commences, with the final train expected to enter service within 44 months.<\/p>\n
The multi voltage 25kV 50Hz and 15kV 16.7Hz ac trains will be authorised to operate in both Hungary and Austria and Stadler will have an additional two years following the end of deliveries to secure certification for operation in Austria.<\/p>\n
The procurement is financed by GySEV through a loan provided by the European Investment Bank (EIB).<\/p>\n
GySEV already operates a fleet of 20 Flirt trains built by Stadler, which were ordered in three different procurements between 2013 and 2018. However, Stadler says the new Flirt inter-city trains will vary significantly from these fleets, reflecting the higher level of service that will be offered.<\/p>\n
A flexible seating arrangement of 280 seats, of which 32 are in First Class, will be possible for operation in the winter, with second class seating occupancy reduced during the summer months to accommodate up to 18 bicycles. The trains will also be equipped with a modern passenger information system, security cameras, sockets for electronic devices, spacious, bright, air-conditioned, low-floor passenger spaces, and two standard and one accessible toilet. Vending machines will also be available for the purchase of food and drink.<\/p>\n
Carbodies for the trains will be manufactured at Stadler\u2019s plant in Szolnok, Hungary.<\/p>\n
