European Energy has signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Amazon Australia to deliver renewable electricity from three large-scale solar parks in Australia. The partnership covers the Mokoan Solar Park in Victoria, which is already operational, as well as two projects currently in the pre-construction procurement phase: Winton North Solar Park in Victoria and Bullyard Solar Park in Queensland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Together, the three sites will provide more than 300 MW capacity. The projects will help lower carbon emissions in Australia and support Amazon\u2019s commitment to enabling renewable energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Mokoan Solar Park, situated in the Hume region of northern Victoria, has already begun supplying electricity to the grid. It has a capacity of 58 MW. It is expected to reduce carbon emissions by more than 60,000 tonnes each year and generate enough renewable electricity to power over 18,000 Australian homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Procurement is underway at Winton North solar park, near Glenrowan in northeast Victoria. The project will have a capacity of 130 MW and is expected to use more than 200,000 solar panels. In Queensland, the Bullyard solar park, located near Bundaberg, will add 125 MW and is currently in the procurement phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis agreement shows that European Energy can deliver renewable energy projects across the globe to strategic partners,\u201d said Catriona McLeod, Country Manager for Australia at European Energy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\nWhat is unclear with two solar farms between Benalla and Wangaratta nearing completion and for the purposes of supplying power to new data centre developments why Sydney and Melbourne? North East Victoria has optical fibre capacity being on the route between Melbourne and Sydney where land would be very cheap compared to capital city developments increasing investment return. Should Australia be bundling land with PPA renewable agreements for data centre deployment and begin working with those wishing to build and operate. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
AI centres are not required to be close to any population. In fact I have heard of proposed developments in Western Australia 700kms from Perth. Big developers of Data Centres should be looking to go regional.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n
