{"id":234191,"date":"2025-06-16T14:58:45","date_gmt":"2025-06-16T04:58:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=234191"},"modified":"2025-06-16T14:58:46","modified_gmt":"2025-06-16T04:58:46","slug":"first-end-to-end-metro-tunnel-tests-to-take-place","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=234191","title":{"rendered":"First end-to-end Metro Tunnel tests to take place"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Test trains\u00a0will complete the first full practice run from East Pakenham through the new Metro Tunnel to Sunbury in Melbourne on Saturday June 21.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trains on those lines will be running to a weekday service frequency, so there will be more services compared to the usual Saturday timetable.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Passengers travelling on the Cranbourne, Pakenham and Sunbury Lines on the day will have to disembark at Caulfield or Footscray and move to a Werribee Line train to continue the rest of their journey. This will enable the test trains to run through the Metro Tunnel without passengers on board.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The trials on June 21 will be the first time that the tunnel\u2019s new systems and infrastructure are tested over a full day.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Network operations expert Shannon Rollinson explained: \u201cLots of people ask, why do you need to do this? You can\u2019t just flick a switch and all of a sudden the timetable is done.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe\u2019re introducing such a big and complex new asset into the metropolitan network.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rollinson said the modelling that has been completed so far is intense and very detailed, and now it\u2019s time to
