{"id":226443,"date":"2025-05-29T06:52:28","date_gmt":"2025-05-28T20:52:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?guid=9c6f602a51df381843b068fafeea326a"},"modified":"2025-05-29T06:52:28","modified_gmt":"2025-05-28T20:52:28","slug":"canterbury-regional-council-supports-rangiora-to-rolleston-commuter-train-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=226443","title":{"rendered":"Canterbury regional council supports Rangiora to Rolleston commuter train services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<p>The idea of a commuter train taking passengers from Rangiora and Rolleston into Christchurch is gathering steam, but not everyone is on board.<\/p>\n<p>Environment Canterbury (ECan) Canterbury&#8217;s regional council, voted to approach KiwiRail to assist in preparing a business case for a Rangiora to Rolleston passenger rail service.<\/p>\n<p>Councillor Joe Davies moved the motion, which was passed unanimously by councillors at a meeting on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>He said a Rangiora to Rolleston service would be \u2018\u2018an easy win\u2019\u2019 compared to the proposed mass rapid transit rail service in Christchurch, as the infrastructure is already in place.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2018There\u2019s a corridor already in place so there would be significantly lower set-up costs compared to the mass rapid transit proposal, and this is an opportunity to link Rangiora and Rolleston to the city.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The idea of a commuter train taking passengers from Rangiora and Rolleston into Christchurch is gathering steam, but not everyone is on board.
