Yellow Rail, a provider of specialist rail engineering services and part of the Buckland Rail group, has announces its relocation to the iconic Derby Litchurch Lane Works, home of Alstom\u2019s historic train manufacturing site. The move marks a significant milestone in the evolution of the UK rail industry and reinforces Derby\u2019s position as the heart of British rail innovation.<\/p>\n

Relocating to Litchurch Lane will enable Yellow Rail to more than double its current workshop space dedicated to the overhaul of freight wagons and bogies. The long-term lease will also provide ample space for growth allowing remote field service activities to be brought on to the site and enable Yellow Rail to create around 25 new roles.<\/p>\n

Relocating to Litchurch Lane not only gives us the vital space we need to expand our growing business, but it also allows us to work more closely with Alstom and other industry partners to deliver cutting-edge solutions for our customers,\u201d said Paul Cunningham, managing director at Yellow Rail.<\/p>\n

With its impressive rail heritage and position at the heart of Europe\u2019s largest rail cluster, the city of Derby employs more than 11,000 people in sector companies.<\/p>\n

In 2022, Derby was chosen by the Government as the home of Great British Railways following a vote by the public between contender cities. Meanwhile, an industry-wide hub \u2013 known as Rail Campus Derby \u2013 has also been established to co-locate businesses in the orbit of the new headquarters to encourage innovation and investment.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis collaboration is a testament to the strength of our city\u2019s rail ecosystem and our ambition to keep it thriving for generations to come, while also representing a first step to bringing Great British Railway\u2019s plans for Rail Campus Derby to fruition.\u201d<\/p>\n

Derby Litchurch Lane is one of the world\u2019s largest rolling stock factories, and the only UK facility that designs, engineers, builds and tests trains for domestic and export markets. The factory was opened by the Midland Railway in 1876 and the city of Derby has been building trains continually since 1839.<\/p>\n

Yellow Rail\u2019s announcement comes as Alstom prepares to host The Greatest Gathering, a landmark event celebrating 200 years of railway history. Taking place at Litchurch Lane Works between 1 and 3 August 2025, the event will showcase the site\u2019s legacy and its future \u2013 making it a fitting backdrop for this new chapter in Yellow Rail\u2019s journey.<\/p>\n

Following the signing of the lease, Yellow Rail plan to fully transition from their current home in the city to Litchurch Lane by September this year.<\/p>\n
