TURKISH State Railways (TCDD) signed a contract with domestic manufacturer T\u00fcrasa\u015f to supply 95 electric locomotives on March 15.<\/p>\n
No delivery date was quoted and the price of the deal for the TSI-compliant E5000 locomotives was not revealed.<\/p>\n
A prototype E5000 was unveiled in February 2023. The new design has a maximum speed of 140km\/h and is rated at 5MW.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur Eski\u015fehir 5000 project, which [is one of] firsts and bests in this field, has many prominent features,\u201d says Mr Abdulkadir Uralo\u011flu<\/a>, Turkey\u2019s minister of transport and infrastructure.<\/p>\n \u201cThe first domestically-designed vehicle body, the first bogie and the first train control and management system for mainline locomotives were implemented with this project,\u201d Uralo\u011flu says.<\/p>\n At the contract signing ceremony Uralo\u011flu also revealed that two prototype New Sakarya 160km\/h EMUs are complete, with delivery of a fleet of 56 scheduled for 2030.
