Train operator TransPennine Express (TPE) has invested \u00a3602,720 to significantly upgrade its staff facilities for staff at its depot in Newcastle. A new break room at Gunner House depot was officially opened on Monday 28 April by Simon Weston CBE, TPE\u2019s new mental health ambassador and includes a new gym kitted out with a treadmill, elliptical trainer, rowing and bike machines, as well as weights.<\/p>\n

The refurbishment forms part of the company\u2019s ongoing commitment to improving the facilities available for staff across its network and more are due to be delivered later this year.<\/p>\n

The upgrades at Gunner House include brand-new showers, a fully fitted kitchen, a new management office, a state-of-the-art gym for staff and a pool table.<\/p>\n

These improvements are designed to enhance the day-to-day experience, providing modern, comfortable spaces for relaxation and wellbeing.<\/p>\n

Chris Nutton, TPE\u2019s major projects & TRU director, said: \u201cWe\u2019re not only investing in staff facilities, but we\u2019re also investing in our people. We want TPE to be a welcoming and friendly place to work.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re making sure downtime from the hustle and bustle of the working day is relaxing and comfortable, as well as ensuring staff have access to facilities that support their wellbeing and personal development.\u201d<\/p>\n

The official opening coincides with TPE\u2019s first-ever Week of Mental Health \u2013 a dedicated week focused on encouraging connection, support and wellbeing.<\/p>\n

The operator\u2019s theme for this year is \u2018we\u2019re here for each other\u2019, which highlights the importance of mental health every day.<\/p>\n

During the week Simon will be visiting TPE colleagues, sharing his own experiences to promote open conversations about mental health.<\/p>\n

Simon is a veteran of the British Army, after suffering serve burn injuries during the Falklands War, he has inspired those with similar injuries and is a highly sought-after motivational speaker, where he talks about overcoming adversity and having a positive mental attitude.<\/p>\n
