A range of Northern<\/a>-managed railway stations have landed top gongs at the Cheshire Best Kept Stations Awards.<\/p>\n

The top award went to Alderley Edge, which was named \u2018Cheshire Best Kept Station\u2019 in 2023.<\/p>\n

It comes after the Royal Horticultural Society<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0recognised its floral offering as \u2018Outstanding\u2019 in October 2023. <\/p>\n

The station has also recently seen\u00a0investment in CCTV provision<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0as part of a roll-out of 612 new cameras across the Northern network.<\/p>\n

The awards, which are celebrating their 21st\u00a0anniversary this year, were presented by Professor Paul Salveson MBE in Northwich last week (Tues 12 March).<\/p>\n

Also picking up an award was Brinnington station, which was named \u2018Best Staffed Station\u2019.\u00a0The station was in the national media spotlight in 2023 following the\u00a0success of a \u2018Swap Shop\u2019 created at the station for the local community by Northern colleagues Stewart Hall and Darin Astbury<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Other Northern-managed stations that picked up awards were:\u00a0Greenbank\u00a0(Best Unstaffed Station),\u00a0Rose Hill\u00a0(In Bloom Award),\u00a0Disley\u00a0(Sustainability Award),\u00a0Goostrey\u00a0(Art Project Award) and\u00a0Romiley\u00a0(King\u2019s Coronation Award).<\/p>\n

Delamere\u00a0won the Cheshire West and Chester Award,\u00a0Glazebrook\u00a0won the Halton & Warrington Award and\u00a0Heaton Chapel\u00a0won the special\u00a0TfGM Award.<\/p>\n

Stations that were Highly Commended in their categories included\u00a0Marple\u00a0(Community Rail Network Award\u00a0for Community Engagement),\u00a0Handforth\u00a0(Best Staffed Station),\u00a0Hale\u00a0(King\u2019s Coronation Award)\u00a0and\u00a0Sandbach\u00a0(Cheshire East Award).<\/p>\n

Craig Harrop, regional director for Northern, said: \u201cI\u2019d like to congratulate all my colleagues and the volunteer groups at stations across Cheshire that were recognised at the awards last week.<\/p>\n

\u201cTheir commitment to excellence in terms of the presentation, operation and overall customer experience of their stations is remarkable and the awards are a great opportunity to highlight their hard work.\u201d<\/p>\n

Speaking at the awards ceremony last week, Mark Barker, chair of Cheshire Best Kept Stations, said: \u201cWhat volunteers do is amazing; the passion, commitment, ingenuity, resourcefulness and sheer hard work has improved your stations for passengers, the community, the railway and for yourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n
