{"id":20301,"date":"2024-03-16T02:37:20","date_gmt":"2024-03-15T16:37:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=20301"},"modified":"2024-03-16T02:37:20","modified_gmt":"2024-03-15T16:37:20","slug":"porterbrook-and-gb-railfreight-order-50-greenbrier-box-wagons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=20301","title":{"rendered":"Porterbrook and GB Railfreight order 50 Greenbrier box wagons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.porterbrook.co.uk\/\">Porterbrook<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbrailfreight.com\/\">GB Railfreight<\/a> have entered into an agreement for the production and purchase of 50 new box wagons to be manufactured by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbrx.com\/\">Greenbrier<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The deal marks continued investment into the rail freight sector, adding to the existing 100 intermodal twin wagons and 50 box wagons delivered to the UK rail network since 2022.<\/p>\n<p>The new wagons, arriving in the UK in Q3 2024, will replace aging assets while also enabling an increase in the nation\u2019s rail freight capacity.<\/p>\n<p>Supporting the expected growth in freight for the construction sector, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbrailfreight.com\/\">GB Railfreight<\/a> will operate these wagons to transport bulk construction materials such as ballast and stone.<\/p>\n<p>Liam Day, Commercial Director of<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbrailfreight.com\/\"> GB Railfreight,<\/a> said: \u201cWorking in partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.porterbrook.co.uk\/\">Porterbrook<\/a>, we\u2019re modernising our fleet by investing in 50 brand new box wagons. These will drive further growth of the business and allow us to deliver more materials to key construction projects across the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach of these new box wagons can move up to 77 tonnes of bulk material, which means that one of our trains can take up to 129 HGVs off our congested roads, pushing Britain closer to net zero.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mark Wyborn, Head of Freight and Route Services at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.porterbrook.co.uk\/\">Porterbrook<\/a>, said: \u201cWe are delighted to continue our journey with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbrailfreight.com\/\">GB Railfreight<\/a> and the rail freight sector.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This deal highlights our ongoing commitment to investing in rail freight for the long-term and to providing affordable, innovative and sustainable freight rolling stock to the UK\u2019s railway.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>John Brown, Sales Director at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbrx.com\/\">Greenbrier<\/a>, said: \u201cWe are thrilled to receive a new order for JNA box wagons from two of our valued customers, showcasing their confidence in our industry leading solutions. This order highlights <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gbrx.com\/\">Greenbrier<\/a> dedication to the UK Rail industry providing reliable and efficient rolling stock to meet the evolving needs of our clients\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Data from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.orr.gov.uk\/\">The Office of Road and Rail (ORR<\/a>) shows freight volumes in construction increased by 16%, reaching 1.44 billion net tonne kilometres from 1 July to 30 September 2023, the highest value since the time series began in April 1998.
