{"id":198335,"date":"2025-04-11T02:33:00","date_gmt":"2025-04-10T16:33:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=198335"},"modified":"2025-04-10T12:39:06","modified_gmt":"2025-04-10T02:39:06","slug":"alstom-seeks-workers-for-train-build","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=198335","title":{"rendered":"Alstom seeks workers for train build"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>ALSTOM Ballarat is preparing to become a final assembly and testing factory for twenty-five of Melbourne\u2019s new X\u2019Trapolis 2.0 trains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister for Public Transport Ben Carroll visited the site last week which he said is set to become \u201cunrecognisable,\u201d as a team of new staff build the \u201ctrains of the future,\u201d but first, the workers needed to be recruited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe product Alstom builds and expertise they bring is world class, but what this means for Ballarat is jobs, jobs, jobs, and apprentices, apprentices, apprentices,\u201d Mr Carroll said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cTo local apprentices and local trade schools, be prepared to be saturated with the opportunity that rests here at Alstom. We are wanting electrical apprentices, auto electricians, and mechanics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re looking for a career in rolling stock, what better place to look than right here in your own backyard at Alstom.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Head of rolling stock development at the Department of Transport, Ben Phyland, said 150 workers are needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFive per cent of our workforce initially will be apprentices, and we\u2019re looking to build on that opportunity with Alstom over time,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn the next few months, there will be a lot of upgrades to the site here, with new cranes, painting, and stands coming in, and later this year, construction will commence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Local member Juliana Addison said the project will have major cross-community benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThis recruitment drive is providing not only manufacturing jobs but a significant economic boost to Ballarat and the region,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Editorial:  4 years later to still no plans for electrification for Ballarat nor Geelong.
