TRANSLINK, the operator of Northern Ireland\u2019s rail network, has awarded a framework contract to design and manage the refurbishment and renewal of its signalling and telecommunications infrastructure to two contractors.<\/p>\n
The contract is valued at up to \u00a3250m and runs for an initial five-year period, with an option for a three-year extension.<\/p>\n
Under the framework, AtkinsR\u00e9alis and Babcock International will carry out multidisciplinary design, construction and commissioning works on a wide range of projects, including renewing lineside signalling assets, level crossings, and control and interlocking systems.<\/p>\n
Translink\u2019s rail network covers around 480km of track, which carry nearly 13 million passengers each year.<\/p>\n
\u201cRobust signalling and telecommunications systems are important foundations of any rail network,\u201d says Mr Ian Edwards, president and CEO of AtkinsR\u00e9alis, \u201cwith modern systems underpinning the ability of rail to provide sustainable connectivity.\u201d<\/p>\n
