Moldovan officials recently assessed the possibility of reopening the line, with a focus on rail freight container traffic.<\/strong><br \/>\n<span id=\"more-61256\"><\/span>The currently unutilised bridge used to connect F\u0103lciu, in Romania, with Cantemir, in Moldova. The line is equipped with a dual gauge, as Romania uses the European one (1435 mm) while Moldova has the Russian one (1520 mm). Given Moldova\u2019s path to join the European Union in lieu of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, reopening rail links to the west is a key aspect.<\/p>\n<aside class=\"readmore\">\n<div class=\"readmore-item\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/railfreight\/2023\/07\/28\/moldova-integration-on-eu-railways-first-priority-is-electrification\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/Balti-Moldova-128x128.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"readmore-thumbnail\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<div class=\"readmore-info\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/railfreight\/2023\/07\/28\/moldova-integration-on-eu-railways-first-priority-is-electrification\/\" class=\"readmore-title\">Moldova integration on EU railways: first priority is electrification<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/aside>\n<h2>Official site visit<\/h2>\n<p>Moldovan officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, State Secretary Mircea P\u0103sc\u0103lu\u021b\u0103 and State Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Irinel Ionel Scrio\u0219teanu visited the Prut-2 railway station, near the closed bridge. They inquired about the rail freight capacity on the line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe officials analyzed in detail the existing conditions for transshipment, the available infrastructure, and the opportunities for developing additional facilities, in order to adapt the station to the requirements of modern freight transport\u201d, the Moldovan ministry of transport said. This line is one of three rail border crossings between the two countries.
