Rail replacement bus services will replace trains between Carlisle and Glasgow Central.<\/p>\n<p>Passengers are being asked to plan ahead for work on the following dates:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sat 29 &amp; Sun 30\u202fMarch<\/li>\n<li>Sun 6\u202fApril<\/li>\n<li>Sun 13\u202fApril<\/li>\n<li>Easter Weekend (Sat 19 April to Mon 21\u202fApril)<\/li>\n<li>Sun 27\u202fApril<\/li>\n<li>May Bank Holiday (Sat 3\u202fMay to Mon 5\u202fMay)<\/li>\n<li>Sat 10\u202f&amp; Sun 11\u202fMay<\/li>\n<li>Sat 31\u202fMay &amp; Sun 1\u202fJune<\/li>\n<li>Sun 8\u202fJune<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ross Moran, route director, Network Rail Scotland, said: \u201cThese are vital improvements that will make the West Coast Main Line more reliable for our passengers and freight customers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile much of the work is complex, meaning we need to close the line to do it, our engineers will work as quickly as possible to complete the project.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Christian Irwin OBE, Network Rail capital delivery director for the North West and Central region, said: \u201cThe West Coast Main Line is a vital route for passengers and freight customers on both sides of the border and our investment in the line north of Carlisle will provide smoother journeys now and in the long-term.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the weekend closures, I\u2019d encourage passengers to plan their trips by visiting the National Rail Enquiries website.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Work in Scotland will also include renewing or refurbishing track at a range of locations including Abington, Thankerton and Symington.<\/p>\n<p>Drainage improvement works will be carried out at Elvanfoot while switches and crossings \u2013 pieces of track that move to transfer trains from one line to another \u2013 will be renewed at Kirtlebridge.<\/p>\n<p>Image credit: Network Rail<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/railuk.com\/travel\/nine-weekends-of-work-to-begin-on-west-coast-main-line\/\" title=\"Nine weekends of work to begin on West Coast Main Line\" rel=\"nofollow\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"485\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.railuk.co\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/28100123\/West-Coast-Main-Line-upgrade-work-Network-Rail-1-485x360.jpg\" class=\"webfeedsFeaturedVisual wp-post-image\" alt=\"\"><\/a>Passengers are being reminded that a series of weekend engineering works will mean changes to services on the West Coast Main Line from this Saturday (29 March).
