The Bulgarian government is providing around 17,7 million euros (34.5 million BGN) to intermodal terminal operators to modernise their infrastructure. \u201cThe deadline for submitting project proposals is 26 September 2025\u201d, a government note specified.<\/strong>
\n<\/span>Each project chosen will be granted somewhere between 770,000 euros (1,5 million BGN) and 2,05 million euros (4 million BGN) via the Transport Connectivity Programme 2021-2027. The beneficiaries will be able to use the funds to finance up to 50 per cent of their projects.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe funds are provided for the purchase of new zero-emission shunting equipment, the implementation of modern IT systems for transport management, as well as for improvements in the railway and road infrastructure of the terminals\u201d, the government added. The investments will cover all the territory of Bulgaria except the south-west.<\/p>\n

Corridor 8<\/h2>\n

For the south-west area of Bulgaria, towards Greece and North Macedonia, the situation is different. The region is part of the so-called Corridor 8, a railway initiative to connect the Black Sea with the Adriatic through North Macedonia and Albania. On Bulgarian territory, the only missing link is a 2.5-kilometre cross-border section between Gyueshevo and Deve Bair. \u201cFor comparison, the missing section on the territory of the Republic of North Macedonia is approximately 70 km\u201d, the Bulgarian government pointed out.<\/p>\n
