{"id":190161,"date":"2024-12-18T19:30:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-18T09:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?guid=1211d3c5c88f32df2626324ec6c306ef"},"modified":"2024-12-18T19:30:00","modified_gmt":"2024-12-18T09:30:00","slug":"rail-regulator-calls-for-better-information-on-board-rail-replacement-bus-services-entering-disrupted-festive-period-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=190161","title":{"rendered":"Rail regulator calls for better information on board rail replacement bus services entering disrupted festive period"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"field field--name-title field--type-string field--label-hidden\">Rail regulator calls for better information on board rail replacement bus services entering disrupted festive period<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"field field--name-created field--type-created field--label-hidden\"><time datetime=\"2024-12-18T09:30:00+00:00\" title=\"Wednesday, 18 December, 2024 - 09:30\" class=\"datetime\">Wed, 18\/12\/2024 &#8211; 09:30<\/time><br \/>\n<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"orr-published-date\">18 December 2024<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-standfirst field--type-string-long field--label-hidden field__item\">The Office of Rail and Road believes good progress has been made over the past year in the quality of information provided about planned rail replacement bus services, but concerns remain with the passenger experience during the actual journey.<\/div>\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-cover-image field--type-entity-reference field--label-visually_hidden\">\n<div class=\"field__label visually-hidden\">Cover Image<\/div>\n<div class=\"field__item\">\n<article class=\"media media--type-image media--view-mode-demo-cover\">\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-media-image field--type-image field--label-visually_hidden\">\n<div class=\"field__label visually-hidden\">Image<\/div>\n<div class=\"field__item\">  <img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.orr.gov.uk\/sites\/default\/files\/styles\/demo_cover\/public\/2023-11\/replacement-bus1_mainpic.png?h=6c368621&amp;itok=W8hW-Wbw\" width=\"1021\" height=\"575\" alt=\"Rail replacement bus stop\" class=\"image-style-demo-cover\"><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/article>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-body field--type-text-with-summary field--label-visually_hidden\">\n<div class=\"field__label visually-hidden\">Body<\/div>\n<div class=\"field__item\"><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"field field--name-field-components field--type-entity-reference-revisions field--label-visually_hidden\">\n<div class=\"field__label visually-hidden\">Components<\/div>\n<div class=\"field__items\">\n<div class=\"field__item\">\n<div class=\"paragraph paragraph--type--text paragraph--view-mode--default\">\n<div class=\"clearfix text-formatted field field--name-field-text field--type-text-long field--label-hidden field__item\">\n<p>With major engineering works set to disrupt rail journeys over Christmas and New Year, passengers will rightly expect reliable and consistent information about replacement services.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, the regulator\u2019s report highlighted gaps in information for passengers; both when planning and making journeys that involve rail replacement services.&nbsp; ORR called on the industry to take action as a result.<\/p>\n<p>The regulator\u2019s follow-up fieldwork this year found:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>information when planning journeys <em>in advance<\/em> is generally accurate and of good quality<\/li>\n<li>improvement in the information provided <em>at the stations<\/em> where passengers change to rail replacement vehicles, with the majority of services now appearing on station customer information screens<\/li>\n<li>new initiatives, led by industry, to develop real-time tracking of rail replacement vehicles and to&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/media.raildeliverygroup.com\/news\/rail-industry-launches-new-videos-to-help-passengers-better-plan-their-journeys-this-festive-period\">produce videos explaining the impacts of planned disruption on passenger journeys<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>However, the regulator said there had been little improvement in the information <a name=\"_Int_5Wn0AQQx\">actually provided<\/a> on the rail replacement journey itself, with the <a name=\"_Int_DPqD34pC\">final destination<\/a> and intermediate stops too often not displayed or announced on the bus.<\/p>\n<p>There were also instances when it was unclear to passengers that they could still reach their <a name=\"_Int_6cbHI3IL\">final destination<\/a> where a portion of their journey would be made via a rail replacement service.&nbsp;This is because the information at the station advertised only the first leg of the journey.<\/p>\n<p>ORR has therefore now set out further recommendations to industry to build on the progress made.
