As a military variant of the Bell 412, they are relatives of the iconic UH-1 Iroquois (Huey) family of helicopters made famous in Vietnam. Canada purchased a fleet of 100 of these aircraft in the 1990s, of which more than 80 remain in service. The Griffon&#8217;s life extension is an interim measure as Canada looks for a new and more capable platform.
