Queensland Rail<\/a> has welcomed 86 fresh faces with new apprentices and graduates embarking on their careers with one of the largest employers in the state.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

With unprecedented growth on the horizon<\/a>, electricians, mechanics, engineers, and more are needed to bolster the forces behind Queensland\u2019s booming rail industry.<\/p>\n

The successful recruits were selected from the more than 3000 people who applied for in-demand roles located in South East Queensland, Toowoomba, Maryborough, Emerald, Cairns, Townsville and Cloncurry.<\/p>\n

Transport and Main Roads Minister Bart Mellish said that this is the opportunity of a lifetime and a chance to launch a career with one of the biggest employers in Queensland.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhether it\u2019s maintaining powerlines, keeping the rollingstock ship-shape or helping move thousands of people safely around our state every single day \u2013 you\u2019ll be on track for success with Queensland Rail,” he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an exciting time for students and trainees, and the rail industry more broadly.<\/p>\n

\u201cProjects like Cross River Rail and the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games are going to transform transportation in Queensland.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd these new starters will play a crucial role in delivering transport revolution.\u201d<\/p>\n

For Queensland Rail CEO Kat Stapleton, she is thrilled to welcome the new team members believing it is an opportunity to make a lasting impact on the rail industry.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were also recently named as one of Australia\u2019s Top 25 Graduate Employers, as ranked by graduates, in the medium program category,” she said.<\/p>\n

Sub Station Electrician apprentice Lauren Corbett said that it was time for her to make a change from her career in corrections and take the opportunity to learn new skills.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m a mum, and I wanted to show my kids that it doesn\u2019t matter where life leads, you can do anything,” she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI wanted to join Queensland Rail because there is constant learning opportunities and different career paths to take within the business.<\/p>\n

\u201cEveryone has been so welcoming and I\u2019m already learning so much from my mentors who have years of experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

Apprentice Rail Traction Linesperson Lleyton Taylor said he was drawn to Queensland Rail because it has a great reputation for stability and opportunity.<\/p>\n

\u201cI like that every day the work is different and I\u2019m getting hands-on experience and learning from my co-workers,” he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI enjoy knowing that what I am doing, whether that is maintaining the lines or doing emergency isolations, ensures the smooth running of the network.\u201d<\/p>\n
