THE Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) signed a $US 55m loan agreement with the Tunisian government on February 23 to support the upgrade of 190km of freight line.<\/p>\n
Its purpose is to increase capacity for the transport of phosphate to plants at locations including Gabes, Gafas, Mdhila, Sfax and Skhira.<\/p>\n
The loan agreement was signed by Ms Feryel Ouerghi, Tunisia\u2019s minister of economy and planning, and SFD CEO, Sultan Al-Marshad.<\/p>\n
According to SFD, upgrading the railway will assist economic growth in Tunisia, by creating direct and indirect job opportunities. It will also reduce traffic on the road network and alleviate congestion.<\/p>\n
