The worst train station in Melbourne<\/a> has been unofficially decided, with one in particular sweeping the competition and taking out the top spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Melburnians<\/a> have flocked to the subreddit r\/Melbourne<\/a>, to vote on what they think is the worst station in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By an overwhelming margin, Jacana station on the Craigieburn line has been declared the winner of the not-so-prestigious award, with 732 people upvoting the comment nominating the station in Melbourne\u2019s north.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reasons for the nomination were abundant, including its \u201cbleak\u201d, \u201cdepressing\u201d and \u201cpost apocalyptic\u201d look and feel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI remember getting off at Jacana once to go to Broadmeadows Court, and the station was the worst part of my whole day,\u201d one user posted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another described the horror of the Jacana station tunnel: \u201cThe thing is deceptively long and dark, even during the day. Vandals spray-painted over the lights and the council gave up cleaning them, so during the night this tunnel is PITCH BLACK.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cJacana is a rusted weather-beaten forgotten wasteland,\u201d another reddit user wrote under the post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

While Jacana easily took out the top spot, there were a handful of honourable mentions, including the CBD\u2019s Southern Cross station (formerly Spencer Street station).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most votes for the Docklands based station were due to the station\u2019s architecture and unpleasant exhaust, with one user attributing their vote to the stations \u201cinadequate lighting, sh*t layout, diesel fumes and stupid-looking roof.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a bleak fume trap with NOT ONE PLANT,\u201d one local wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEvery time my train stops at Southern Cross I get nauseous from the diesel exhaust,\u201d agreed another user.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some user\u2019s lamented the station that once was.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI still haven\u2019t emotionally recovered from the name change. SpencerSt4Eva,\u201d said one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI only answer to Spencer Street Station,\u201d wrote another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aircraft station in Laverton was another top contender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One user said you couldn\u2019t even tell the station had been recently renovated<\/a>, describing it as a \u201csh***hole\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI still hate that station and I haven\u2019t been back in 23 years. It drove me nuts. Not sure why I hated it I just remember I dreaded going there,\u201d another wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve only had the displeasure once when a train I was on got cancelled there. Hopefully never again. Place is in the middle of nowhere too.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n

North Shore, East Richmond, Macauley, Boronia and South Kensington were also mentioned in the reddit post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The question on the r\/Melbourne comes as locals in other cities across Australia also took to the platform this month to cast their votes in their respective subreddits, with Eastwood taking out the prize for Sydney\u2019s worst station after 59 elimination rounds on r\/ Sydney.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
