THE president of Nigeria, Mr Bola Tinubu, inaugurated the first 26.5km phase of the Red Line light rail project in the state of Lagos on February 29.<\/p>\n
The line from Oyingbo to Agbado has eight stations and has been constructed by China Civil Engineering Construction (CCECC) under a contract awarded in 2021. It is the second light rail line to open in the city, following the first phase of the Blue Line in September 2023 and is expected to serve 250,000 passengers a day.<\/p>\n
Tinubu described the project as “a dream realised and the fulfilment of years of hard work and dedication by successive governments.”<\/p>\n
Construction continues on the 10.5km second phase of the line, from Oyingbo to Marina. which will add another three stations.<\/p>\n
The president also witnessed the signing of a construction contract for the second phase of the line.<\/p>\n
