The delivery schedule is not quite \u2018next day\u2019, but will be fulfilled over the next 18 months. Amazon says it\u2019s part of the UK\u2019s largest-ever eHGV order. A further 60 units are destined for Amazon\u2019s European operations in Germany.<\/p>\n<p>It radically scales up the online retailer\u2019s green credentials. Amazon in the UK will increase from just nine eHGVs (Heavy Goods Vehicles) currently operating across the UK roads. Amazon is also acquiring a smaller order for eight Volvo FM Battery Electric trucks.<\/p>\n<h2>Government funding<\/h2>\n<p>Around 20 of the Mercedes-Benz trucks will be partly funded by participation in the UK Government\u2019s Zero Emission HGV and Infrastructure Demonstrator programme (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/publications\/zero-emission-heavy-goods-vehicles-and-infrastructure-competition-winners\/zero-emission-heavy-goods-vehicles-and-infrastructure-competition-winners\"  rel=\"noopener\">ZEHID<\/a>). The company intends to use the electrified West Coast Main Line, between the English Midlands (often known as the \u201cGolden Triangle\u201d for logistics) and Central Scotland. The WCML is popularly known as Europe\u2019s busiest mixed traffic railway, and is the subject of an extensive upgrade plan, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.railfreight.com\/railfreight\/2024\/05\/16\/trilink-the-radical-west-coast-main-line-upgrade-explained\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">reported by our sister service, RailFreight.com<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Charging infrastructure<\/h2>\n<p>Ports have faced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.worldcargonews.com\/ports-terminals\/2025\/01\/preparing-for-clean-equipment\/\"  rel=\"noopener\">power supply issues when switching to electric mobile equipment<\/a>. Amazon proposes to address the challenge of keeping their new zero-emissions fleet on the road by installing additional fast-charging infrastructure across key UK sites. These include 360kW units, capable of charging the new trucks from 20% to 80% in just over an hour.
