Site investigations are underway at\u00a0Ruthven Street, Macleod<\/a>\u00a0as part of work to remove the dangerous and congested level crossing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/span>The rail line will be elevated over the road, permanently separating vehicles and trains, which will improve safety and ease congestion on local roads.<\/p>\n

From\u00a0Monday\u00a013 January, the LXRP team will be doing work around Somers Avenue to investigate ground conditions, locate underground services and investigate equipment in the rail corridor.<\/p>\n

The LXRP team will also undertake environmental and cultural heritage investigations over the coming months.<\/p>\n

Information from these site investigations will inform the concept designs for the new rail bridge.<\/p>\n

To allow crews to work safely there will be ongoing lane closures on local roads from\u00a0Monday 13 January,\u00a0with access to local homes and businesses maintained at all times.<\/p>\n

About 12,600 drivers travel through the Ruthven Street crossing each day. The boom gates are down for up to 29 minutes of the morning peak, when up to 28 trains travel through the level crossing.<\/p>\n

The project builds on the second stage of the\u00a0Hurstbridge Line Duplication<\/a>, which delivered more train services, and removing this level crossing will prevent even more boom gate down time in the future.<\/p>\n

It follows level crossing removals at\u00a0Grange Road, Alphington<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Lower Plenty Road, Rosanna<\/a>\u00a0creating more benefits for local communities and a better transport network for all Victorians.<\/p>\n

The level crossing at Ruthven Street will be gone for good and the new rail bridge open in 2027.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
