POLISH manufacturer Newag signed a contract on February 29 with Silesian Railways for the supply of 22 Impuls 2 EMUs.<\/p>\n
The Zlotys 1.3bn (\u20ac301m) contract includes an option for eight more trains, which will be used on regional services in the Silesian Voivodeship. The new EMUs will be fully accessible and fitted with bike racks.<\/p>\n
The first trains are expected to be delivered in 2026.<\/p>\n
The order follows the award to Newag of a Zlotys 2.3bn contract by PKP Intercity for the supply 63 multi-system locomotives in January, and the signing of a Zlotys 1bn contract with the same operator for 46 electric locomotives in December.<\/p>\n
Also in December, Newag strongly denied claims that it deliberately programmed trains supplied to regional Polish operators to fail so it could benefit from additional maintenance business, announcing that it would pursue legal action against those making the allegations.<\/p>\n
