Works on the Albury to Illabo (A2I) section of Inland Rail have begun in Wagga Wagga<\/a> with the establishment of a site compound by Railway Street.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

From 7am on Monday 6 January, Inland Rail\u2019s construction contractor, Martinus Rail<\/a>, will establish the site compound which will provide office space, laydown areas, staff amenities and vehicle parking.<\/p>\n

In addition to setting up the site, the works will also include surveying and environmental sampling, site clearing and earthworks, and are expected to take up to eight weeks to complete.<\/p>\n

The site compound will be located alongside the rail corridor at the intersection of Macleay Street and Railway Street.<\/p>\n

Malcolm Clark, Inland Rail Project Director, Albury to Illabo, said this is the first step on the journey to enhance the rail line through Wagga Wagga to enable the use of double-stacked freight trains.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe establishment of the site compound will enable contractor Martinus Rail to carry out some important early works, ahead of more significant work later in the year,” he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will do our best to minimise disruption for residents in this area and we thank residents for their patience and understanding.\u201d<\/p>\n

During this period, low-impact utility location activities will also be carried out along Edmondson Street, Erin Street, Macleay Street and Railway Street.<\/p>\n

Residents can expect to see light vehicles, heavy vehicles and plant in the area, and nearby residents may hear some construction-related noise.<\/p>\n

Water carts will be on site as required to control dust that would be generated by site works.<\/p>\n

Works will only take place during the planned hours of 7am to 6pm Monday to Saturday. In the unusual event that works are required outside these construction hours, impacted neighbours will be notified in advance.<\/p>\n

Traffic management combined with a 40km\/h speed limit will be in place to ensure safe vehicle and pedestrian movement. Workers will be briefed to keep noise to a minimum and be respectful to neighbours and members of the public.<\/p>\n
