{"id":160987,"date":"2024-12-24T10:50:23","date_gmt":"2024-12-24T00:50:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=160987"},"modified":"2024-12-24T10:50:54","modified_gmt":"2024-12-24T00:50:54","slug":"rail-union-calls-off-new-strike-action-over-new-years-eve","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=160987","title":{"rendered":"Rail union calls off new strike action over New Year\u2019s Eve"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The state secretary of NSW\u2019s powerful rail union said revellers can \u201csafely assume\u201d Sydney\u2019s famed fireworks will go ahead, but fell short of guaranteeing services would run to plan over New Year\u2019s Eve &#8211; arguing that remains up to the government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The combined rail unions, including the Australia Rail, Tram, and Bus Union, were dragged before the Fair Work Commission on Tuesday in a last ditch bid to halt industrial action over New Year\u2019s Eve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Representing the combined unions, lawyer Leo Saunders told the Commission the Section 424 applications had been withdrawn following an \u201cgeneral and specific undertakings\u201d by the union.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe combined rail unions as a whole commit to the following: no new industrial action that poses a threat to events on New Year\u2019s Eve and all industrial action will be conducted in a way that ensures the safety of workers and passengers,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Speaking outside court, RTBU NSW secretary Toby Warnes said some bans, including the reduction on the number of kilometres a driver could travel, would be withdrawn, and no new industrial action would be planned for New Year\u2019s Eve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere was never going to be any rail shutdown or major disruptions on New Year\u2019s Eve and now there certainly won\u2019t be,\u201d Mr Warnes said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI understand that people are uncertain of that because of the government\u2019s rhetoric over the past three weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSo, we call on the Minns government to stop now.
