The Victorian Government<\/a> is kicking off works on a number of infrastructure projects in Melbourne\u2019s growing west<\/a> \u2013 removing four level crossings and building a new Melton Station.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Crews are now on the ground at all level crossing removal sites in Melton and Truganina.<\/span><\/p>\n

Temporary fencing and barriers have been set up around the project area to keep workers safe \u2013 and works are continuing ahead of piling and major earthworks.<\/span><\/p>\n

This massive project will deliver better journeys for passengers and motorists, with new rail bridges taking trains over Coburns and Exford roads and new road bridges over Ferris Road, Melton and Hopkins Road, Truganina \u2013 as well as the new accessible Melton Station.<\/span><\/p>\n

The new Melton Station will feature four platforms to accommodate Ballarat train services and provide dedicated platforms for services that will begin and end at Melton.<\/span><\/p>\n

Minister for Transport Infrastructure Danny Pearson spoke about the projects.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are getting on with building a massive package of works across Melbourne\u2019s west \u2013 cutting congestion for motorists and delivering better and more reliable transport connections for passengers,\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n

The dangerous and congested level crossings will be gone for good and the new station will open in 2026 \u2013 two years ahead of schedule.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Melton Line Upgrade will boost passenger capacity on the line by 50 per cent and support the introduction of longer nine-car VLocity trains \u2013 with the project set to be complete in 2028.<\/span><\/p>\n

A new stabling yard will also be built at Cobblebank to house the new trains and early site investigations will soon get underway.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Government is building 23 new VLocity trains in Dandenong to increase capacity in Melton \u2013 with six trains already operating on the network.<\/span><\/p>\n

Across Melbourne, 110 level crossings are being removed by 2030, with 84 already gone for good.<\/span><\/p>\n
