Once this process is completed, the railway equipment will then be installed. The first trains are expected to start running in the new Semmering Base Tunnel in 2030.<\/p>\n<div class=\"youtube-container\" style=\"height:0;overflow:hidden;padding-bottom:56.25%;position:relative;width:100%;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-embed\" style=\"bottom:0;height:100%;left:0;position:absolute;right:0;top:0;width:100%;\" width=\"960\" height=\"540\" src=\"https:\/\/youtube.com\/embed\/PFLMf_FQ1AM?rel=0&amp;autoplay=0&amp;mute=0\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen allow=\"accelerrometer; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\"><\/iframe><\/div>\n<p>The creation of the new Semmering Base Tunnel is part of \u00d6BB\u2019s project to upgrade the so-called southern route (S\u00fcdstrecke in German). This initiative aims at improving rail connectivity between Klagenfurt, Graz and Vienna for both passengers and freight.
