As summer in Melbourne heats up, so too does the huge push to get the mega Metro Tunnel<\/a>\u00a0projects ready for operation next year, as Victoria\u2019s Big Build continues to deliver significant transport improvements across the city.<\/strong><\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Read more below about the major planned disruptions coming up in inner<\/a>,\u00a0west<\/a>,\u00a0north and east<\/a>, and\u00a0south east<\/a>\u00a0Melbourne and\u00a0regional Victoria<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Inner Melbourne<\/h2>\n
\n

The\u00a0Metro Tunnel<\/a>\u00a0has entered a new phase known as trial operations \u2013 the \u2018dress rehearsal\u2019 for the project, which will continue into next year. It\u2019s the first time the station staff, operators, maintenance staff and drivers will be involved.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Major construction has finished on three of the five new underground stations, with work continuing on the two CBD stations \u2013 Town Hall and State Library. Flinders Street will be reduced to one lane between Russell and Swanston streets\u00a0westbound until late 2025. There will also be a full westbound closure\u00a0between Swanston and Elizabeth streets.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Melbourne\u2019s west<\/h2>\n
\n

Metro Tunnel<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Level Crossing Removal<\/a> works will also impact the Sunbury Line at various times over summer. Work to remove four level crossings in Melton and a new Melton Station will also ramp up over summer with a construction blitz in January. Watsons Road\u00a0in Diggers Rest\u00a0is closed until late 2025 while the road bridge is built.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Melbourne\u2019s south east<\/h2>\n
\n

Metro Tunnel\u00a0<\/a>works will impact the Cranbourne\/Pakenham lines this summer. From 2 to 11 January, Cranbourne\/Pakenham passengers will interchange at Caulfield Station for Frankston Line services to the city.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

With the final tunnelling contract for the first stage of the\u00a0Suburban Rail Loop<\/a>\u00a0now locked in, crews are moving utilities and preparing sites for major construction and tunnelling. Works are underway at all 6 Suburban Rail Loop East stations sites between\u00a0Cheltenham and Box Hill\u00a0and the train stabling facility.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Melbourne’s north and east<\/h2>\n
\n

Tunnelling is powering ahead on\u00a0North East Link<\/a>, with 2 tunnel boring machines well on their way from Watsonia to Bulleen, digging the 6.5km tunnels.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Buses will replace trains on sections of the\u00a0Hurstbridge Line<\/strong>\u00a0for 8 weeks in February and March.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Regional Victoria<\/h2>\n
\n

Level crossing removal works<\/a>\u00a0will also impact sections of the\u00a0Bendigo Line\u00a0in December.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

\n

Coaches will also replace trains on the\u00a0Echuca, Swan Hill and Shepparton lines\u00a0at various times over summer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
