THE rail trail between Glen Innes and Armidale has been shunted after the state and federal governments withdrew more than $14 million in funding.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Well there is a god or at least there is some common sense now prevailing when it comes to the supply of passenger and freight rail services in NSW. A project that never had a business case and was a stupid idea has been shelved and the funding pulled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The New England area once had a rail line connecting NSW with Queensland and it may well again with the rail line surviving. There has been considerable support from the industry and rail unions<\/a> to revitalise the track north of Armidale to ensure trains can return and productivity gains around the use of rail as a viable alternative to road transportation can be achieved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Now will this at all park a rethink of the stupid ideas converting important rail lines needed for carbon emission reductions to rail trails especially in the backward state like Victoria.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
