The European Union (EU) assigned a tender for 32 million euros for the upgrade of the so-called North-South corridor in Moldova. The tender was won by Greek Obermeyer Hellas and German DB Engineering&Consulting.<\/strong>
\n<\/span>The project entails \u201cthe provision of the services of support in the implementation and supervision of the rehabilitation works of the North-South railway corridor\u201d, the EU said. The railway goes through the Moldovan cities of V\u0103lcine\u021b, Ocni\u021ba, B\u0103l\u021bi, Ungheni, Chi\u0219in\u0103u and C\u0103inari.<\/p>\n

Other than this 32-million-euro grant, the upgrade of this corridor in Moldova saw investments by various European institutions. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, for example, is investing a total of 41 million euros in the project. Moreover, the European Investment Bank shelled out over 50 million euros. The upgrade of this railway axis in Moldova is a key factor in the country\u2019s integration into a European network.<\/p>\n
