Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) has merged its ADY Container subsidiary with ADY Express as part of its reorganisation process. This initiative will lead to container and wagon transportation services to be unified under one umbrella, as Emil Mammadov, advisor to the Chairman of ADY told RailFreight.com.<\/strong>
\n<\/span>In other words, ADY Express now \u201cacts as a single logistics operator on behalf of Azerbaijan Railways\u201d, Mammadov specified. The main difference between wagon and container transport is that the former usually entails the transport of bulk cargo and the latter entails the transport of containerised goods.<\/p>\n

The merger became official at the end of October. \u201cAll staff of ADY Container has been transferred to ADY Express without any layoffs and downsizing of the staff\u201d, Mammadov he. The specific functions of ADY Container were rail-based container transport and logistics services, which will now be transferred to ADY Express.<\/p>\n

ADY expanding internationally<\/h2>\n

Other than an internal reorganisation, ADY is \u201cis also actively pursuing a number of supranational endeavours to streamline rail freight transport by international transport routes and corridors passing through Azerbaijan\u201d. Recent examples of this were the creation of a joint venture with Georgia for the management of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and the creation of the International Association Eurasian Transport Route to create a harmonised framework for traffic along the Middle Corridor.<\/p>\n
