Besides the recently announced 400 million dollar deal with Kazakh Railways (KTZ), American rail technology company Wabtec is delivering more rolling stock to the rail operator. By 2027, nearly 140 more locomotives will join KTZ\u2019s fleet from a plant located in the capital city of Astana.<\/strong>
\n<\/span>The plant, which is owned by Wabtec, is building freight, shunting and passenger locomotives for KTZ, according to Kazakh media. In the coming two years, KTZ will get 128 more freight locomotives from the American company. Earlier, the rail operator already received 451 freight locomotives, as well as 83 passenger and 19 shunting locomotives.<\/p>\n

Besides rolling stock deliveries, Wabtec also offers planned and unplanned diesel locomotive repairs in eight regions of Kazakhstan, say Kazakh media. The company also opened a technological engineering centre in Astana in the summer of 2024, where it is developing \u201cecologically clean next-generation products\u201d.<\/p>\n

400 million dollar deal<\/h2>\n

Earlier, Wabtec signed a deal with KTZ for the delivery of hybrid locomotives worth approximately 400 million dollars. The locomotives are supposed to be adapted to Kazakhstan\u2019s extreme climatic and geographical conditions, such as steppes, mountains and desert.<\/p>\n
