The Spanish ministry of transport began two feasibility studies concerning the port of A Coru\u00f1a, in the northwest of the country. One of the studies will concern the creation of a southern rail entrance, while the second one will investigate the possibility of creating a new terminal in Uxes, 14 kilometres south of the port.<\/strong>
\n<\/span>When it comes to the port\u2019s new entrance, the idea is to use \u201cthe layout and tunnels of the old conventional line that is out of service in Uxes\u201d. The study regarding a possible new terminal in Uxes, moreover, will inquire on the possibility of deviating there the traffic coming from the A Coru\u00f1a-San Diego terminal, located near the city\u2019s inner port and an important rail freight hub. The studies, worth almost 700,000 euros combined, will be led by engineering firm Ineco.<\/p>\n

Big changes ahead for the A Coru\u00f1a port<\/h2>\n

The port of A Coru\u00f1a, a core node for the Spanish section of the TEN-T Atlantic Corridor, has been undergoing significant changes over the past couple of decades, with the construction of the so-called Outer Port, located further from the city centre. For this project, the Spanish infrastructure manager Adif is investing 123.6 million euros to bring rail to the heart of the new facility. \u201cThe creation of these infrastructures responds to the ministry’s objective of promoting rail freight traffic and intermodality with maritime traffic\u201d, the Spanish ministry stated.<\/p>\n
