A construction blitz on the Victorian Government\u2019s new tram maintenance<\/a> and stabling facility in Maidstone is set to commence across November.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Starting at 10:00pm, Thursday, 7 November to Wednesday, 27 November, sections of Hampstead, Williamson and Wests roads will be closed to install overhead poles, wiring and lay out new tracks that link to the future stabling facility.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Maidstone tram<\/a> facility will maintain, clean and house the new modern fleet of accessible G Class trams in Melbourne\u2019s west \u2013 delivering more space and comfortable journeys for passengers.<\/span><\/p>\n

Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams spoke about the work being done.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are improving our tram network, and the new maintenance facility in Maidstone will make sure we have more trams, more often in Mebourne’s west,” she said.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019d like to thank people for their patience while crews work to lay tram tracks next month. Please plan ahead and allow extra time while crews work around the clock.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The modern tram facility is being constructed with sustainability at the forefront of its design \u2013 and includes energy efficient LED lights, solar panels, recycled plastic materials and rainwater tanks.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Victorian Government is investing $1.85 billion to deliver 100 G Class Trams which are expected to be introduced on the network in 2025 \u2013 transporting passengers on Routes 57, 59 and 82.<\/span><\/p>\n

The project will use at least 94 per cent locally made content and create around 280 local jobs in construction, ongoing maintenance and the supply of materials and services.<\/span><\/p>\n
