{"id":138133,"date":"2024-10-09T17:10:59","date_gmt":"2024-10-09T07:10:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=138133"},"modified":"2024-10-09T17:11:00","modified_gmt":"2024-10-09T07:11:00","slug":"slips-affecting-rail-route","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=138133","title":{"rendered":"Slips affecting rail route"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The after effects of recent heavy rain and flooding are still affecting the main rail route south from Oamaru to Dunedin with &#8220;numerous slips&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of yesterday evening the South Island Main Trunk Railway north from Dunedin to Oamaru and south of Dunedin to Balclutha was still closed due to a number of significant slips on the rail corridor, particularly at Shag Point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>KiwiRail South Island infrastructure manager Gary Ikin said the line was closed between Timaru and Invercargill last Thursday afternoon as the weather deteriorated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;There have been numerous slips onto our rail line, areas where the tracks were washed out, and in some places the tracks were underwater.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The most damaged areas were initially north of Dunedin, around Shag Point where several significant slips had blocked the tracks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We have now reopened the track between Invercargill and Balclutha.
