The Germans used them extensively for reconnaissance in WW1 and         <span class=\"display-card-hyperlink-article\" data-id=\"2030239\"><a href=\"https:\/\/simpleflying.com\/zeppelin-airships-germany-wwi-strategic-bomber\/\" >even to bomb London and other cities<\/a><\/span>. One of the first             <span class=\"display-card-hyperlink display-card-hyperlink-no-vignette\" data-id=\"1847\"style=\";  ;\" class=\"display-card-hyperlink display-card-hyperlink-no-vignette\"><a href=\"https:\/\/simpleflying.com\/tag\/airships\/\"  >airships<\/a><\/span> acquired by the US Navy was the USS<em> Los Angeles<\/em> (ZR-3).
