{"id":13628,"date":"2024-02-21T15:49:16","date_gmt":"2024-02-21T05:49:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?guid=003c860e9bccb641801766cb3bf01614"},"modified":"2024-02-21T15:49:16","modified_gmt":"2024-02-21T05:49:16","slug":"nelson-bus-fare-jump-for-youth-will-burden-families","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.vibewire.com.au\/?p=13628","title":{"rendered":"Nelson bus fare jump for youth \u2018will burden families\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A jump in bus fares for children and young people as Government subsidies end will further burden families when the cost of living is hitting hard, says Nelson deputy mayor Rohan O&#8217;Neill-Stevens.<\/p>\n<p>Minister of Transport Simeon Brown announced in December last year the scrapping of Crown funding for free public transport fares for 5 to 12-year-olds and half-price fares for 13 to 24 year-olds.<\/p>\n<p>As a result, bus fares for under 13s in Nelson Tasman, which are currently free, will cost from $1 to $3, depending on zones travelled, while fares for 13 to 25-year-olds will double from May 1.
