The question of who will manage the Can Tunis rail freight terminal, located near Barcelona, Spain, might soon find its answer. Grupo Alonso, the company which has been managing the facility so far, is likely to retain its role after a somewhat controversial race against Transportes Portuarios.<\/strong>
\n<\/span>The game seemed to be over already in 2023, when Transportes Portuarios was selected by the Spanish infrastructure manager Adif to become the new manager of the Can Tunis terminal. However, this decision was appealed by Grupo Alonso in the summer of 2023, with Adif starting a new tender procedure in September last year<\/a>. Now, all signs point to Alonso retaining the task of managing the facility, with a contract for 10 years that would begin in February 2025, as Spanish media El Mercantil mentioned.<\/p>\n

Other than managing the intermodal terminal, the winner of the new tender will have to take care of the parking spaces, offices and a storage warehouse, all elements that were already under Grupo Alonso. The company has been managing the Can Tunis terminal via its subsidiary Setemar. If the tender is awarded to the company, which seems highly likely, they will have to plead an investment of 900,000 euros to rehabilitate some of the spaces. Moreover, there will be an option to extend the contract for up to 20 years.<\/p>\n
